Crochet Mood Blanket 2014

Happy New Year! It's that time of year to pick new goals, resolutions and challenges. This year I'm 86ing any resolutions and only going for goals and challenges.

My first Goal/Challenge is the Crochet Mood Blanket! The goal is to crochet 1 square a day for the entire year with a color that reflects your mood.

Here are my colors/moods:
Only after I put this together I realized I forgot "sad". I'll just have to NOT be sad this year!

This is a cotton blend yarn that I found in the bargain bin at AC Moore.

Seeing to how I'm an EXTREMELY moody person my blanket should turn out quite interesting.

I'm going to do 360 squares (18 squares by 20). Each block is about 3in by 3in. Then I'll use 5 or so days to do a border. Sounds like a good plan right?

I had to write everything down and make a test square to see how it'll work out. I am worried about what size my blanket will end up being. But...we'll see!

This is something EVERYONE can join in! There's a Facebook page (type in Crochet Mood Blanket 2014) or check out mummy_stacey on Instagram. This is her wonderful idea! She has all the rules and ideas listed right on her page.

Good Luck!

Teaser Tuesday: Allegiant (Divergent #3)

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme,
hosted by MizB of Should be Reading.
“There are so many ways to be brave in this world. Sometimes bravery involves laying down your life for something bigger than yourself, or for someone else. Sometimes it involves giving up everything you have ever known, or everyone you have ever loved, for the sake of something greater.

But sometimes it doesn't.

Sometimes it is nothing more than gritting your teeth through pain, and the work of every day, the slow walk toward a better life.

That is the sort of bravery I must have now.”
Long tease - but I like it!

Zig Zag Stocking #2

Whew! I finished my third stocking just in time for Christmas!

Actually I even have a couple days before Christmas day just to admire my own handy work (terrible right?).

This has got to be top 10 of my most favorite handmade things I've ever made.

I need to find a better place to hang them ... But for now, this is where they live!

Happy Christmas!

Zig Zag Christmas Stocking

Happy {almost} Christmas! I'm happy to report I'm ALMOST done shopping BUT I'm not done Christmas crafting. I can check one thing off my list: ZIG ZAG Stocking #1:

I love it. Super cute.

I love the candy cane stripes of this time of year!

I plan on making one more Christmas stocking.
The third one will be just like this zig zag red but I'll use a sparkly green yarn instead of red.
See Stocking #2 here: Cluster Stocking

I should've started crafting months ago! In 2014 I will start in June!

Cluster Christmas Stocking

Stocking #2 is done!!
My mom had texted me a couple weeks ago saying I needed to buy a stocking for her house. I immediately thought: Why buy one when I can MAKE one.

After I made ONE I thought: why not make TWO more for MY apartment.

I'm busy hooking the last one now - I hope to have them done and up before Christmas! *Fingers Crossed*

Note: I know this post says "Stocking #2"
and you MAY be wondering where stocking number 1 is ... I'll post that one tomorrow!

Handmade 2013

Everyone on Instagram is posting collages of there 2013 crochet work and everyone's work is jaw dropping beautiful. Nobody asked me to ... But I took it upon myself to make my own little collage of some of MY 2013 projects:

I realized only after I hit "save & exit" on my collage I forgot to include a few other projects...but this group of photos still makes me proud of my 2013 work!

Check out my Crafty Crochet Page for more information about each project.

Have you made your #handmade2013 collage yet? If so share me the link! It's a great feeling of accomplishment.

Review: Insurgent by Veronica Roth

I FINALLY finished Insurgent by Veronica Roth.

From Goodreads:

One choice can transform you, or destroy you.

Every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves, and herself, while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Read my tease here.

It took me a really long time to get into this book. I remember LOVING Divergent and being really excited for this book to come out but then, I think I waited too long to read this one after reading Divergent.   There is NO recap in book 2 from book 1 and I forgot so much of what happened in the previous book, so the first 10-15% of Insurgent I was lost. Lost in the story and then I lost interest in wanting to read it.

I put this book down for MONTHS and finally last week (while on the plane) I decided to make it a priority to finish it while on vacation.  Once I got past trying to remember what happened in book 1 the story started moving along for me.

I have to say I didn't LOVE this one as much as I loved Divergent book 1. It lost some of it's magic and I feel like I didn't like Tris as much and/or any of the other characters. Let's be honest - book 1 is A LOT to live up to ... and book 2 fell short for me .... until the last page.

The last page sparked my interest, so I will read book 3 just to see how things end (and in hopes that book 3 will answer the WHY questions I have from books 1 & 2).

Have you read this? Do you feel the same as I do or am I being too harsh. I think if there was a recap I would've given this book more love.

Teaser Tuesday::: Insurgent

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme,
hosted by MizB of Should be Reading.

"I run down the stairs, chasing the heels of the Dauntless in front of me, ignoring the jostle of elbows and all the shouts around me. I feel like I am an initiate again, storming the stairs of the Hub right after the Choosing Ceremony. My legs burn, but that is all right."

Review: The Lightning Thief

Howdy! Looking for a quick and easy ready? Boy oh boy do I have a review for you: The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #1) by Rick Riordan.

This was recommended to me by Taylor. She mentioned it a couple times to me as a suggestion and I FINALLY got to it and I'm so glad I did.

From Goodreads:
Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school... again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus' master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.

Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus' stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.

My thoughts:
This is a great, easy, fun read. I did see the movie before I read the book (which I rarely do) and I enjoyed the movie, and I have to say I enjoyed the book just as much as the movie - if not more.
The characters are likable and the story moved along at a nice pace.

It also brought life to the Olympians in a way that I really enjoyed.  Zeus, Hades, Athena, Poseidon - all there ... and producing Demigod children who we follow along in this story as they look for Zeus' master bolt.

I found the book to be well written book - one of the kinds that you pick it up to read a few pages and next thing you know you've read half the book.  The author is descriptive, throws in twists and makes you want to read every word on every page until the end.

I recommend that you raid up your little sibling's, cousin's, friend's kid's, or whomever's bookshelf and grab this one.

Check out my TEASE here from Teaser Tuesday.

Cute Crochet Christmas Gift Ideas

Feliz Navidad. Almost.

At this point I assume I will NOT be gifting handmade gifts to my friends & families.
I have nothing made.
And I really don't know if 20 days is enough time to make anything.

Maybe I'll just start planning for Christmas 2015.

There's lots of cute Christmas crochet things out there.
One of my favorites ... is one of my own (duh):
I filled these with chocolate liqueurs and gave them out a couple years ago. I saved one for myself and I have no idea where it is. Tsk. I guess I'll have to make more.

Pinterest has lots of cute ideas that I'm filing away in my brain for future gift making/giving:

These are cute and usually colorful. I don't get the point of them but all the ones I have ever seen have looked fantastic.  What do you use a mandala for?

Oh I love this. I thing I'll make this for myself ... and I don't even wear earrings but I adore this.

I've ventured out and made one of these one time but not any more. I love the little birdie ones.

I've made coasters before (here & here) and I actually like making them. I LOVE the gray color with the bright border.

I realize everything I like is stuff I'd make for myself. LOL. Maybe I won't  be giving out handmade gifts at Christmas 2015 - I'll just have a bunch of handmade goods in my own house.

What cute handmade gifts will you be giving out this holiday (or next) or what would you like to receive? Leave me a link below!

Neat Ripple Blanket - FINALLY Finished!

Finally my TAH-DAH moment for my neat ripple blanket:

It took 35 long weeks working on and off on this blanket ... and I enjoyed it ... but I'm glad it's done! Another completed project is always a good feeling!

This pattern is super easy! Attic24's neat ripple pattern. I'll probably make a few more blankets using this same pattern. I recommend you do too!

Since it took me forever & a day to make I blogged about it a couple times: here and here

Teaser Tuesday ::: The Lightning Thief

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme,
hosted by MizB of Should be Reading.

I have {yet again} raided my little cousin's book stash to get my latest and greatest reading material (last time was for the Hunger Games...so I KNOW that kid has great taste in books)!

"My legs felt wobbly, trying to walk that far. Grover offered to carry the Minotaur horn, but I held on to it. I'd paid for that souvenir the hard way. I wasn't going to let it go."

This is a great & easy read! I should've finished it weeks ago - but I've been busy! I hope to finish it soon!

Tah Dah! Maybelle Flower Pillow

Last week I shared with you this post with the start of my maybelle flower squares. I have since joined them and made myself a pillow:
It's done! Yippie!
Isn't it cuuuuute?!

I was inspired by this picture on Instagram:

(please tell me I'm not the only person that screen shots stuff on Instagram?!?).

Maybe I shouldn't say "inspired" because I straight up copied her pillow - but that's just flattery towards her ... Right?!

How about a couple more pics of MY copycat version:

It doesn't match anything in my house ... which to me means...I need to make something to match it! Aaaand I may have already screen shot something else from Instagram to make 😳!
